How did you get involved with wrestling?

Wrestling is my family business. My uncle was a successful wrestler and coach in Virginia, coaching Hampton High School, then Bethel High School to state championships. My brothers and I spent time in the gym with his teams and grew up with the sport. I finished 2nd in states my freshman year, then finished 5th followed by two state championships. Both of my brothers had great success as well. I also completed on a state championship football team, and state runner-up baseball team. I had the pleasure of wrestling at George Mason University under Mike Moyer, but a knee injury and other situations ended my career prematurely. I eventually re-entered the sport as a volunteer coach at Osbourne Park and Chantilly High school in Virginia. I enjoyed 15 years of coaching prior to moving to Pittsburgh, my wife's hometown, where I now sponsor tournaments and teams through my real estate business.

What do you do professionally? Tell a little about your professional journey.  Feel free to promote yourself or your company/business. Include website, etc.

I spent my career working in all aspects of commercial real estate management serving as a portfolio manager, VP of marketing and business development, then to the service side working with the construction and renovation divisions. I have had rental properties since the early 90s and my passion has always been flipping homes. I continue to flip in the Pittsburgh region today, where I also have my real estate license with Keller Williams Realty. I have also worked within the industry educating members through our trade associations and hope to continue that education today with restlers interested in the real estate industry.

What made you choose that path and why do you enjoy it?

My mother worked in real estate, so something in that industry was interesting to me. And it is what was available in abundance in the Northern Virginia/DC region. In the early 90s I saw flipping as an opportunity which I pursued with a friend. He was an Army Ranger so it was good therapy for him when home from tours. Taking something old and worn-out which others have given up on and turning into something others now desire is an incredible feeling, and the money isn't bad... It is now what I do full time.

How did wrestling prepare you for your professional career? What were the intangible benefits you learned through the sport (discipline, goal-setting, commitment, resilience, etc)?

I speak to a lot of parent groups about the benefits of wrestling for their child. Beyond the obvious of being in a sport and building their body we emphasize setting goals then re-setting them once accomplished, discipline to stick to a commitment, individual as well as a team sport, living a clean and healthy lifestyle. All of the above is ingrained in who you are as a wrestler, and unknown to you at the time, it sticks and carries into your professional life.
