When did you join WIBN?
2017, and shortly thereafter became a Board Member of the previous Boston Chapter.
How did you get involved with wrestling?
My older brother (and now business partner) started wrestling in the 9th grade. He was two years ahead of me in school and I followed in his footsteps.
What do you do professionally? Tell a little about your professional journey. Feel free to promote yourself or your company/business. Include website, etc.
I am a Financial Advisor. I've been in this field for over 15 years, steadily building my practice. In that time, I've acquired various professional designations to better serve clients, including becoming a Certified Financial Planner, Chartered Life Underwriter, and Chartered Financial Consultant. My brother James and sister Anna work in partnership with me.
What made you choose that path and why do you enjoy it?
In November of 2007 I was struck by an automobile while walking to class and it sidelined me for the remainder of my junior season while wrestling at Johns Hopkins University. I decided to seek an internship and found my way to Northwestern Mutual, where I've been able to grow my career ever since. I made a full recovery and returned to the mat for my senior season, while maintaining my affiliation with Northwestern Mutual and entering my chosen profession full time upon graduation.
How did wrestling prepare you for your professional career? What were the intangible benefits you learned through the sport (discipline, goal-setting, commitment, resilience, etc)?
Wrestling instills work ethic, mental toughness, focus, and grit in the face of adversity. Building a financial services clientele requires time and patience. It also requires the willingness to surmount many unforeseen obstacles along the way, whether they come from competitors, regulatory changes, underwriting issues, or just plain old bad luck. As Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius said nearly 2,000 years ago - "The art of life resembles more that of the wrestler, than the dancer; since the wrestler must ever be ready on his guard and stand firm against the sudden unforeseen events of his adversary."
