A letter FROM THE Dallas Board
October 12th Update on the TCWF’s efforts to support Tarleton State establish a D1 Wrestling Team
The last month has seen us take some giant steps to assist Tarleton State in their effort. Highlights include:
· The creation of an NCWA Program at Tarleton State with 19 students already participating
· TWCF’s hiring of Stanford Assistant Coach Grant Leeth to head up the program
· The addition of West Point Assistant Coach, Jimmy Overheiser as Grant’s assistant coach
We need to make one thing clear. Tarleton has not agreed to start a D1 program UNTIL we make good on our financial commitment to raise $2M this year and a $1M a year for years two through four.
Our strategy is to get Tarleton’s team competing this year in the NCWA and to allow Grant to do the things necessary to prepare for membership in the NCAA Division One. Our hope is that we can accomplish our financial goals this year, but…
We need your help!!
We have raised approximately $400K towards our goal. We need everyone in Texas who loves wrestling to get involved. We had over 50 years of High School Wrestling in Texas. The addition of Girl’s wrestling has seen our number explode.
We are doing this for every High School, Middle School, and club wrestler in the state. This is about providing scholarships and more college wrestling opportunities for our Texas wrestlers. It may also help Texas wrestlers, wrestling out of state who might want return home.
If every wrestler and his/her family contributes $25, $50, or $100 to our cause, we will be able to satisfy our commitment to Tarleton and set us up to support adding a second and third Texas University to the mix.
